May-Month of Mary

May is considered to be the month of Mary our Mother from middle ages. God honored Mary above all creatures by making her the mother of His son. Mary's special privilege were given by her by God. So church also honours Mary very specially during this month. As Elizabeth says '' And why this granted to me, that the Mother of God come to me ?''. She is the mother of Lord and our mother , in the divine words of our Lord to Mary, ''Behold thy son''and to His disciple John, ''Behold thy mother', she became our mother too.

We are going to walk with Mary for next 30 days.

1. Making a mini altar for Our Lady

Find some space in you home and decorate and keep a little statue. So everyday we can make special prayers though her. This is part of venerating her. Though we don't worship Mary, God alone is the worship. Lots of ideas here in Catholicinspired blog to make it as beautiful it can.

2.  Crowning of Mary

This is another practice in Christian homes, which used to be very popular in Britain and USA. In the simplest form, Mary crowning involves putting a statue of Mary and singing some hymns, like Mary we crown thee..and placing a garland or a crown for here. Many of the churches in Britain still practice it on this month with a special ceremony. The youngest can bring the crown on a soft cushion and the oldest can crown the Lady. Though churches and schools remain closed, it can be still be done in our homes.

By walking with Mary, we can always try be like her or imitate; through our prayers.

3. Saying Angelus prayer which is a little masterpiece is the Angelus Domini...The angel of the Lord.
The church invites us to call to mind three times a day the great mystery of the Incarnation accomplished in Mary for our salvation. When St Alphonsus Ligouri had grown old and deaf, he begged to be informed when the angelus was rung. Even if he was out on the street,at the first sound of the bell, he knelt at once to recite it. Or else practise learning, Magnificat the Canticle of Mary this month. Mary is like a magnifying glass which magnify things. She praise God and magnifies Him, praise His mercy and kindness. Beautiful mini booklet of Regina Coeli can be printed, assemble the booklet and children can color in for the Easter season.

4.As part of walking with the Lady, let us learn the meaning of some of the marian titles.Gate of Heaven, Our Lord came to earth through Mary. Another title of Mary in litany is Ark of the covenant , the presence of God in the Old Testament(Exodus) where in New Testament it is Mary.Inside the ark of covenant is the ten commandments, Aaron's rod and manna.Mary who is the ark of covenant where God's presence is there, Jesus fulfilled the covenant, became the High priest and Bread of life which is parallel to OT.
Children could download the printable, stick it on a thick cardstock, fold it along the dotted line and assemble the ark of the covenant and drop tablet inside. Ark of covenant printables to do can be accessed.

Another title of Mary as 'Queen of martyrs' , along with all the English martyrs who gave their life for the faith of the country, includes all priest, women and men from the time of reformation we may ask for their powerful intercession. Litany of saints of English can be done. Children can taught about what it is meant to be Communion of saints .Mary is queen of martyrs not because of her martyrdom, however it is through her bitter sorrows and sufferings.

May...Month of flowers and Mary

Since it is the month of May and Mary,a lot of search was going on vigorously about flowers. It has been found that a great month to  to honour Our Lady and see various blooms.

It  was on my search of flowers that ended up with ideas of creating Mary garden this month as this is a month with lot of blooming flowers, beautiful scents, hovering flies. Many flowers like bluebells, daisies, pansies, petunias, tulips, blossoms are seen this time of spring

Did you know that many flowers have Marian names? Marigolds, Rose of Sharon, Rosemary, Lavendar etc.. That has amazed me with so many flowers and plants you know has Marian names.       You can even create Mary's garden in your own outdoor garden or indoor within a pot. Plants and trees with Marian names can be planted along with a Mary statue reminder of  great love of Our Lord and Lady and God's creation.

People saw reminders of Mary in their daily lives and found something special in many of these herbs and flowers, Book of Mary's flowers mention  as ancient legend says  fragnant flowers and herbs reflected Mary's spiritual sweetness and soothing .Mary's garden were very common in medieval times and the ideas has been originated in 5th Century. Lots of information are found in here starry mantle, fish eaters, pinterest, mommy erin, catholic icing and lookat him.

This has inspired me to grow a Mary Garden which just initiated, started planting some flowers and herbs in our front garden with marigold, petunia, fuchsia, thyme etc...

Some of the Marian names of the common flowers and herbs.
Marigold; Mary's gold
Petunia; Mary's praises
English Daisy; MaryLoves
Calendula; Mary's bud
Lavender; Flight  to Egypt
Daffodil; Mary's Star
Tulip; Mary's prayer
Rosemary; Dewdrops of Mary/ nosegay
Rose; Mary's rose
Thyme; The virgin's humility (Mary's Flowers...)

Yesterday we went to Fletcher park and Parsonage garden  in Didsbury started in 19th century, which was so beautiful with wide array of beautiful sweet scented flowers with various hovering bees sucking the nectar. Felt like a day in Garden of Eden and children just took some guides to learn the names of some flowers. Enjoyed the beautiful sunshine too.

Another beautiful thing of May is Crowning , which was done last week as a gesture to honour Mary. Children beaded crown and each of them got the chance to crown three of our statues.

Beloved 2023

It was such an adorable three days for each and every mom gathered in Hayes, Derbyshire from each and every quote in the mug to the candles gifted in the end of Beloved. Every bit was thoroughly designed and executed so magnificently. To me , it was such a great time of creativity, joy, friendship and gratitude.

The day began with a beautiful welcome pack includes sweet, flower, Word of God for each moms which we prayed for each other and blessed on the first day. It was a lovely talk on daughter of God by Alice Hall, concluded with led adoration by her.

Our Lady of Rosa Mystica all ready to welcome mothers with a wood craft done by me and children, carved as 'O Mary conceived without Original Sin pray for us'. First attempt with woods and was a dream  for a long time.

Day 2 packed with three sessions on motherhood, and workshop on temperamence by Hazel , Teenage parenting by Anna and one for young mothers. The day ended with astounding experience before the Lord and praying over by  moms .

With my junior Aiimsonian, time of treasure walk and reflection. We choose to sit and meditate after a short walk.

With beloved Bishop who came for reconciliation, so humbled by his presence and honoured. Basket with veil for offertory reminding the purity of Sacrament of matrimony.

Eve full of Lord's blessed presence , led by Jayamma and decorum by Sminu.

Day 3
The day commenced with time with the beloved ( personel time) moved into gentle stretching then excercise which was quintessential for moms and often neglected. Those time were fab as many sensed their bodies need gentle nudges to sustain a healthy body and soul. Hazel led the stretching time with zumba towards the end. That was awesome for me and to see every moms loved and long to survive with those for as long as move back to their abodes.

Another thrilling experience for me was Crowning of Mary. Since it is May and month of Mary, reminds of Mary as Queen of Heaven and earth. I also made a humble prayer through her day before if all mothers coild have a jubilant time outdoors . So it literally happened and we were ttuly blessed. As I looked for weather for 1pm, my heart was blown away. Temp showed up 18c, amazing. Such an awesome experience, sun was pouring down..Our beloved Mother was smiling at all her children and pointing us to her son Jesus.

There was a beautiful lawn with a lovely arch  and  fountain. So we placed Rosa Mystica lady there.. Rosary hand bracelet was made  self with rosary pack given for each along with marian prayer. Ancy crowed Mary and sang 'Mary we crown thee..'
