Michaelmas

Michaelmass is the feast of Archangels.  It falls on autumnt equinox and days are getting darkened in northern hemisphere. Also it marks the end of harvest. Time to put away summer clothes and pull out winter clothes . Michaelmas marks the season when we feel the impulse to turn inward after long summer and gather strength and fortitude for the cooler days and long nights ahead.

It is feast of Mich at home. We had our feast routine to wish with fav food or gift. Mich is fond of fruits and he was given fruity bed snack.

Planned to do scavenger  hunt. However kids were fully engaged into machtax.  Read the stories of Archangels:  St Michael, St Rachel and St Gabriel...protector, messenger and healer.

Had scones with cream and blue berries . After this day, it says blackberries get bitter and not good to eat.

Archangels protect us. Ora pro nobis

Our Lady of Walsingham

Septiember 24th is the  Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham, Mary's dowry.

The story of Lady Richeldis spun around Mary's visit  to her and took her to Holy Family of Nazareth. It was so interesting to read,  lady Richeldis was asked to take measurements of the house to make replica in England. So it is known as England's Nazareth.

Its bit curious to read how middle age pilgrimages happened. Some of the essential ítems carried with them like will, bible, ampulla and so on once the permission from bishop was given.

Mary's statue has lot of meanings to it. Our Lady is pointing to Jesus who carry Bible- Word became flesh. Throne with pillars on either side with 7 rings portrays sacraments. Mary is sitting on toadstool which shows anglosaxon way of saying Our Lady stsmping head of serpent/ evil.

Just had some cupcakes and listened to Lady of Walsigham hymn...

From past

It was a great day. Shared to jy kids about feast and had some special guests at home.
