Candlemas /Feast of Presentation

Feast of Presentation of Lord is celebrated on February 2nd . It is also known as Candlemas. This follows after  40 days from  Christmas , day of purification of Mary. Blessing of candles take place on this day. Children created some home made candles and took it to bless after H. Mass. Fr Peter blessed it . It was a wet day, Groundhog day in some countries. If the day is cloudy and wet, said to be a long winter and some of the animals go for a long hibernation. Early spring signs can be seen , why not look out for crocus buds popping up this time?

To celebrate Candlemas, some countries celebrate making crepes reminding baby Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothes. The first born, Jesus as per old law was presented to church . Another Epiphany when Christ child is revealed and words of canticle by Simeon  and prophetss Anna...''A light to gentiles and glory to Israel...'' Christ is the light of the world , that's why from middle ages , the blessing of candles and procession takes place on this day.
