Alderley Edge Mine

Children had an opportunity to visit Alderley Edge Mines a few days ago, were mined from Bronze age until early 20 th Century.

At Alderley Edge , the main products were copper and lead with, later cobalt. It was an amazing experience to the kids to see the mines, different types of copper, how can you differentiate from the colour. A series of steps are normally required to obtain a finished product ; exploring, developing, extracting and processing. It was fun for the children to wear headlights, torches and clothings to explore the mine , deep, dark and slippery at times. Many Home Ed children were there accompanied with their parents.

Holy Helpers feast day

It was Feast of St Michael,St Gabriel and St Raphel and it was a very special day in our family as Munnu's name day in this feast day too. Traditionally it is called Michaelmas. We had a read aloud about these archangels and munnu practised the heavenly helpers song .

Angel craft made by children.
Mobile craft was made by using big skewers placed in a cross shape and woven around with wool. Then different angels are hung in different arms.

Munnu got two bunnies on his special day and he is very keen to look after them, feeding beet root leaves , feeds and water.

Children learnt Latin phrase for the name of Michael ; Quis ut Deus and made some cupcakes in the afternoon. It is a tradition of making devil cakes or cupcakes in assisting St Michael in defeating the devil. We plucked some berry branches for decorations and it says these berries aren't not good after
September (Michaelmas) as it is believed that St Michael spat on bad angels ( feast & seasons by Joannes Bogle).

Back to school 2015

After a super weekend in Holy well and Llandudno, we  opened our school on the Feast of Nativity of Our Lady, which was a great day . We were thinking to start on 7 th September but couldn't .The summer flew very quickly especially with having a new baby born too. After all the preparations of   buying books and making check lists ,school year started.

Children were quite keen to have their school open as they wanted to see the new list of school items.I prepared all especially  which I made Schultütes first time this year. Before I let them open, mummy said few prayers for the children and we made a chocolate cake with symbol M on Our Lady's birthday.

Borrowed some ideas from shower of roses blog and children had some back to school treat depending upon their taste.

Schultütes made for children was filled with school supplies. This is a German tradition of filling the school cones with school supplies, treats and goodies for the children on the first day of school. 'Tute' word means bag and 'Schul' for school and a label named with patron saint for this academic year was stuck on it. Annu picked St John Bosco, Munnu got St John Cupertino and Theresu got St Philomena , who are suitable for students.

Theresu was very much excited to see her new school items as she is very keen to learn new things this year.

Made back to school treats with some labels.

Parish priest made a visit to our house and he blessed the house, talked a bit about himself to children. Our Lady's birthday cake was cut following that. It was a great day for children and all of us, Below sunflower is from our garden for the Lady.

Summer 2015

 In Ladywell Preston

Kidoos read certain numbers of books over
summer as part of Summer  Reading Challenge and got the certificate.

Begining of September we went to Holywell, Conwy and Llanddudno . Children enjoyed time in Llandudno flying kites and making stone castle carrying stones from the shore. It was a great experience in Holywell to see all the remains from the time of reformation and to know the story of St Winifred and St Beuno.

So delighted to be part of  Jesus Youth Alive National  conference 2015.

Theresu and Annu with their friend when they came for sleep over and making cookies.
