Experiments with aerosols

It has been a very nice idea to see how Munnu invents many science experiments from science books from libraries and you tube. One of the latest things was using aerosols and spraying it on the flame and explore how that affect the flame. The flames get distorted when aerosol is sprayed on it.

Kitchen Science

Kids are all quite keen in doing some experiments, pinching things as much they could from the kitchen. Munnu is making indicator by boiling chopped purple cabbage leaves and boiled. After some time of boiling, he poured that into a glass and showed us how the different colors are established in different layer like in a litmus paper. It was so interesting to see munnu's experiment with the help of a  science book from the library. To do more of ph, some ph testing kit were ordered from Amazon.

Theresu is making bubbles using various things from kitchen and enjoying the bubbles getting bigger by blowing with a straw. Annu is crushing and grinding herbs and other stuffs by using mortar and pestle.

Experiment with candle

Children were trying to do candle experiment. First prepared some colored water and poured it into a plate. Then lighted a candle and placed inside the colored water. Covered the candle with a transparent glass cup. As soon as you cover the candle, youcould see the water started rising inside the glass and then the flame turned off itself.

This is because the heated flame makes air inside to expand and escape out to create a vacum inside. The flame gone off, created a cold atmosphere inside and this caused a less pressure inside. Then the high pressure of air outside is pushing inside which is of less pressure causing the water to rise inside. Colored water helped to visualise the rising of water more clearly.

It was of fun to kidoos and they tried to experiment a few times to see how the water rises.

Doing an experiment

Children tried to mix vinegar with baking powder to see what happens.

This chemical reaction makes carbon dioxide gas which causes bubbling and fizzing.

Found to be interesting to see the balloon blowing up as the powder and vinegar react

Therese enjoying bubbles at the same time. Ready, steady Go!!
