Feast Of Guardian Angels

Angeles

Psalm 91:  'God sent his angels incharge of you to guard and guide you wherever you are...'

October 2nd , celebrated the feast of Guardian Angels. This day has a special appeal to the children .You can remind children about the angelic protector, to whom you can always confide especilally when there is any need. Pray to Guardian angel as often as possible especially when you get up ,out for the day. At bed time, we try to say with children the Guardian Angel prayer and bless them on their forehead, so that they know God has provided each one of them with their own guardian angels to protect them. Considering the existence of Angels in our daily lives and in the life of the church.CCC teaches their existence as the 'truth of Faith'. Item 328 says 'witness of scripture is as clear as unanimity of tradition'

Children read about the angels , instances where God sent angels in the New and Old Testament from the book 'The Angels, God's Messengers and Our Helpers'.

Children said prayer to Guardian Angels and we had small statues of angels gifted to each of them on their birth, which we displayed in the altar. They all had their angels in their hands and said the Guardian Angel prayer. Following that, kidoos learnt Guardian Angel song fom mamatina  which was fun. Annu made some angel craft and she decorated it.

IDEAS borrowed from Shower of roses.
Table Blessing for the Feast of the Guardian Angels

Reading: They come, God's messengers of love, they come from realms of peace above, from homes of never-fading light, from blessful mansions ever bright. Lord, to us the zeal of angels give, with love to serve you while we live; To us an angel-guard supply, when on the bed of death we lie. (Robert Campbell)

Responsory Verse: God gave his angels charge over us,

Response:
to protect us in all our ways.

The Lord's Prayer

Blessing: Almighty God, our creator, we unite with the choir of angels to sing your praises daily. And today, we give you thanks for giving the angels to us, as messengers of your mysteries and as protectors of our bodies and souls. Grant us to share this meal in peace, joy, and thanksgiving, being always mindful of the unfailing protection of our guardian angels. We ask you this, through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
A Mother's Prayer to the Guardian Angels of her children:

I humbly salute you, O you faithful, heavenly Friends of my children! I give you heartfelt thanks for all the love and goodness you show them. At some future day I shall, with thanks more worthy than I can now give, repay your care for them, and before the whole heavenly court acknowledge their indebtedness to your guidance and protection. Continue to watch over them. Provide for all their needs of body and soul. Pray, likewise, for me, for my husband, and my whole family, that we may all one day rejoice in your blessed company. Amen.

'O Guardian Angel preserve me from the misfortune of offending God'

St Therese Of Child Jesus

October 1st is the feast day of St Therese of Child Jesus, which is also the feast day of our little theresu.St Therese is the beloved saint of many people. Making sacrifice beads is great. Little flower used strings of  beads in her pocket to count her gifts/ sacrifice she did for the love of god. This was found in Litlle ways and  with instructions to make sacrifice beads. We decorated the altar with the statue of St Therese. Went for the Holy Mass with theresu.

Kids read about St Therese and  thought of  making  Paperdali of St Therese, which will be fun too. Picture of rose flower was found from Jessica's blog which made me to make a lap book on St Therese. Beautiful coloring sheets aredone by Matilda. Beautiful Coloring sheets of the whole life story is there in glory stories.“O my Jesus, I offer this for love of Thee, for the conversion of poor sinners, and in reparation for all the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary." Teach your children this prayer and say it yourself whenever some suffering comes your way! This prayer truly helps us to put our (often small) sufferings in perspective!

There are lots of fantastic ideas to celebrate this beautiful day in mamatina's blog. Some small gifts were given to theresu and Munnu too remembering his feast day passed recently.

Experiment with candle

Children were trying to do candle experiment. First prepared some colored water and poured it into a plate. Then lighted a candle and placed inside the colored water. Covered the candle with a transparent glass cup. As soon as you cover the candle, youcould see the water started rising inside the glass and then the flame turned off itself.

This is because the heated flame makes air inside to expand and escape out to create a vacum inside. The flame gone off, created a cold atmosphere inside and this caused a less pressure inside. Then the high pressure of air outside is pushing inside which is of less pressure causing the water to rise inside. Colored water helped to visualise the rising of water more clearly.

It was of fun to kidoos and they tried to experiment a few times to see how the water rises.

MOSI- Museum Of Science and Industry

We as a whole family went to Museum Of  Science and Industry  (MOSI), Manchester yesterday as part of learning science.

Theresu is using the 'lever' mechanism and driving the car up.

Mixing the colours. Good to know the primary colours and sensory applications of mixing the primary colors to create secondary colors.

Exploring  various densities of the liquids.

Awareness about the recycling mechanism and the materials can be assorted based on the nature of the household things.

What are shadows? How are they formed?. It was good for Munnu to explore about the term'opaque' as he was learning this week about the nature of materials. He put his handsinside shadow box to make different shadows, created various animal shapes.

Museum got a fabulous cotton industry remnants, exhibiting the spread of cotton industry, how the spinning machine works, countries (especially India) from whom cotton was exported in the beginning of industrial revolution.

As part of the textile exhibition, there is  'My Den' for children to make all sorts of Den using cotton mats, fabrics, cushions etc. It was fun for the kidoos.

Thanks charlotte for the beautiful coloring pages on this special day

Sept. 12 - Most Holy Name of Mary - In accordance with Jewish custom our Lady’s parents named her eight days after her birth, and were inspired to call her Mary. The feast of the Holy Name of Mary therefore follows that of her Birthday, as the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus follows Christmas.
